- Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), also known as Ironwood, is a hardwood tree native to Europe. In woodland management, it coppices well, greatly adding to biodiversity by creating an ideal habitat and supporting a variety of wildlife.
It is highly prized as firewood due to its incredible density and hardness. When dried properly, hornbeam logs burn slowly and produce a significant amount of heat and a pleasant aroma, enhancing the ambiance of any home.
